Kresley Cole has won me as an ardent fan. Unlike some romance authors, she really does her homework on the historical setting--it feels authentic--and she makes you fall in love with Scotland and it's men of old. which works so well as she weaves her tales. After having enjoyed her Immortals after Dark series (which is wonderful), I wasn't sure I'd like an historical romance without the paranormal, but I so fell in love with the MacCarrick brothers that I read each book in a day and promptly re-read the three books. They will draw you in, I promise. They are wonderful. She writes so well and keeps both the action and romance going non stop. She seems to like stories where there are three brothers (the Wroth vampires, the MacRieve brothers, etc).
There is a 500 year old "curse" that does suggest a bit of the paranormal but it's only humans here. But I did not miss the vampires and werewolves in this series at all. These three brothers are sexy and strong and love their women with a love that is compelling. If You Dare (The MacCarrick Brothers, Book 1)If You Deceive (The MacCarrick Brothers, Book 3)[[ASIN:1416503609 If You Desire (The MacCarrick Brothers, Book 2) You won't be sorry if you pick these up--but I warn you--you won't be able to put them down.
That's pretty much exactly what Anna did.I wasn't expecting the paranormal aspect of this book. I bought this book because I really enjoy Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. If this is an example of her best historical work I'm definitely better off not reading anymore of them. Now I can understand this as I found him pretty irritating, but to hate him and then suddenly decide you're in love with him. I had an eye twitch by the end of the book.I don't plan on continuing with any of this author's historical novels. What was up with Anna in this story.
I think I would have gone with the flow of it better if I had actually been enjoying the book. Someone recommended that I try the MacCarrick Brothers trilogy because it is supposedly some of her best historical work. I really didn't like it either. Her personality was so grating and she did such stupid things. Through out most of the book she loathed Court. I also seriously disliked the fake Scottish accents.
I think we're both better off that way.
I had this book loaned to me. I was skeptical at first, but was quickly captured by the story. The author did a great job with the characters. I can't wait to read the next book.
It is really hard to enjoy a book when for the first 180 pages the lead character is spitting, cursing, insulting, despising, and then trying to escape the hero no matter how much danger it lands her in. Then he remembers the curse he is under and starts avoiding her. Not just pretends to hate him while secretly desiring him but hates him all the way to the bone. (Spoilerish) The heroine hates, and I mean hates, the hero for the entire first half of the book. I read this series backwards and I'm glad I did that because the third in the series is just charming but if I'd started with this one I'd have never gotten to the third. I'd rather had my money back.I'm really sorry to write a bad review as Kresley Cole has written many good books that I've enjoyed thoroughly. But once she wants him. Just like that.
Oh, yes it is. This is romantic. Then one day out of the blue she decides that he is not so detestable as the reasons she hates him turn out to be rather false. This book irritated me to no end. Frustrating. She tries to escape him over and over until she finally gets herself shot rather than stay with him. Fine, then she'll just fall in love with him. I almost pitched the book at that point but I'd paid good money for it so bore down and finished it. Unfortunately I can't say that for this one.
Court knows his former employer. Court's passionate hungry pounds with each word. Annalia determined to save her brother agrees to a marriage with the enemy General Pascal who wants her royal bloodline as a seal of approval of his rule. However, outside forces impose their will on Court and Annalia. The Scottish mercenary Courtland is rescued by the Lady Annalia. The love of the brother and sister is reinforced throughout the story. The characters are enjoyable. Annalia curious innocents blooms under the assasination attempts as does her respect for the Scot's skill to protect her.
The joy for finding love, the agony to do what is right, and the honesty to deal with relationships is well done. Court kidnaps Annalia and takes her to safety. While Annalia just wants to help the injuried Scot and Court is grateful, Court is also curious about the beautiful Lady Annalia. Annalia blooms with acceptance of her sensuality. The marriage will not save her brother, but kill her brother as soon as she is wed to Pascal. Is she safe from the curse Scot. Will the curse win or Annalia. I even enjoyed the side story of Aleix and Olivia.
